25-26 June 2013
Kosice, Slovakia

To highlight the current state of the transport, to name the trends of further development and to find solutions for user and environmentally improved transport infrastructure in the city of Košice, the Košice Region (KSK) and also throughout the entire region of Eastern Slovakia, was the aim of an international conference held in Košice on June 25th -26th, 2013. Professional event with nearly 180 participants and 46 presentations was held under the auspices of the Slovak Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, City Council of Košice, University of Žilina and Košice Technical University. With the help of partners and sponsors the conference was prepared by the Košice Self-governing Region in collaboration with the Agency for the Support of Regional Development Košice.

Among 46 presentations ACCESS2MOUNTAIN project and its output on cross-border intermodal routes and adjustment of the wagon for transporting the bikes were also presented at the conference in the section of other forms of transport and tourism.

Some of the conclusions of the conference are:

  • to recognize cycling as equivalent mode of transport, this means building a network of bike routes in the cities, villages and in the open country;
  • to create conditions for the improvement of public passenger transport based on the construction of an integrated transport system;
  • to involve the public mass transportation in the city of Košice in an integrated transport system - it could bring not only reduction in costs and increase revenue for carriers, but especially it could attract more passengers thanks to simpler and faster traveling;
  • to construct the infrastructure for efficient suburban transport services.
